Arrive in Xining, the gateway to Qinghai province and the northeastern Silk Road. Overnight in Xining
Depart Xining after breakfast and drive toward Qinghai Lake, the largest saltwater lake in China. En route, stop at small Tibetan villages and pastoral landscapes dotted with grazing yaks and horses.
Arrive at Qinghai Lake around midday for lunch with panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Spend the afternoon walking along the lakeshore, taking in reflections of the peaks, birdlife, and vast highland plains. Sunset provides spectacular photo opportunities over the sapphire waters.
Overnight near Qinghai Lake
Depart Qinghai Lake and begin the journey west across the high-altitude desert plateau. Travel through sweeping grasslands, barren hills, and remote pastoral settlements. Stop for short walks and photo opportunities to observe local nomadic life.
